Specialist Resins

Back in the 80's some builders were using special resins in the final layup to prevent osmosis. Does anybody have experience of the effectiveness of the treatment? Is osmosis more prevelant in boats kept in fresh water as opposed to salt water?

Whilst I know that we are yet to loose the first boat to hull failure due to the dreaded blisters our friends in the insurance are still hiding in the cupboard, shivering at the thought.

Your thoughts and experiences would be appreciated.

I thought osmosis was all but eradicated with the newer isopthalic gel coats and outer layups used on virtually all modern boats. These materials are more expensive so the fairline/princess/sealine end of the market uses it only in the gelcoat and first layups, whereas some builders use it the whole way through
