Special paste

My tube of Duralac must be at least twelve years old. I first bought it when I was fitting home-made stainless mast steps on my previous boat. What I do every pre-season is to 'massage' the tube gently so as to prevent the oily goo separating from the yellow stuff. Last used before the summer of last year when fitting the wand of a new mast-head wind unit.

+1 on the "massage". Its the yellow that is the active so mush it around to merge the oil back in and it seems to have an infinite life. On a slight drift I am amazed how much use of dissimilar metals is made on something that is meant to be soaked in salt spray. I bought my tube when I was rebuilding an alloy housed anchor winch with stainless bolts and screws in it. It has come in for window replacement recently - steel screws in an alloy frame this time.

As others here, I bought a tube of Duralac a year or so ago...and I've only used a small amount. I'm hoping the use-by date is simply the manufacturer's built-in obsolescence.

If anyone here EVER needs a squirt of the stuff, I'll be glad to send them some in one of those 10ml airline-friendly shampoo bottles. Only a tiny amount is plenty for most jobs.
