Spent an hour searching.

A mariner four stroke, 4hp, requires an NGK DCPR6E.

Do you remember the website that shows equvialent sparks by other manufacturers?

One site states Champion equiv. is RA8HC, but that is wrong.

Denso (never heard of them) is XU22EPR-U

Can't find Bosch equiv yet.

Just so when I go to buy them this evening I have some equivalent makes in case shop doesn't have NGK.

Cheers
Tim

Well, most cross reference tables say the Denso equivalent is XU20EPR-U, not the number you listed, and give the Champion equivalent as RA8HC.

Stick the champion RA8HC back into the converter (the one I found) and it kicks out a NGK DCPR7 (that's 7 and no longer the 6) originally entered. That aint right now is it?

And the mariner website and manual states DCPR6E NOT 7, but I need to go back and read VicS thread about what the numbers mean (resistance and stuff I think) to see how relevent these number differences are.

Which converter website did you find?

Try to find the correct NGK plug

Equivalent tables may give a near equivalent but not necessarily the best choice for the engine.

In the UK NGK plugs seem to be the most commonly stocked by chandlers. It is mostly only Johnson and Evinrude engines that specify Champion plugs with exclusion of all other makes.

Champion RA8HC is a near match but more closely matches DCPR7E which is one grade cooler than DCPR6E.
It is listed as the Champion plug for Mariner 4hp 4 stroke engines 1999-2002 and the closest Champion you will get i think

Bosch Y6DC is the equivalent of DCP6E , but thats not a resistor plug.

Like pvb I have come up with XU20EPR-U as the Denso equivalent
(XU22EPR-U is one grade cooler and equivalent to DCPR7E)

but I need to go back and read VicS thread about what the numbers mean

DC means 12mm thread and 16 mm hexagon
P means a projected centre electrode insulator
R means it is a resistor suppressed plug
6 is its heat rating. 6 is hotter than 7 and moreorless equivalent to a Champion grade 9 ( numbers run the other way for Champions 9 is hotter than 8)
E is 19mm reach

Spot on Vic.... Just to confuse matters the Bosch heat range is also the digit in the plug number, but they run the other way round to NGK.....

If a correct x-ref to Bosch is required I can get you one at work tomorrow (today actually!).
