Admire your faith, Jim. The missus once had a garden hose confiscated on the grounds that she might use it to throttle the crew. A can belt might make an even better garrotte (although you'd have to get the timing right...)You're traveling within the EU.
No customs issues arise.
Take it whichever way is most convenient to you.
Remembering, of course, that any sharp items can't go hand luggage, since they may be construed as being weapons . . .
So what was the out come ?Its Because they (security) do not know the rules for every Carrier. Life Jacket co2 cylinders in particular. We only have hand luggage for Portugal! Read below

Message : Can you please resolve and clarify the situation regarding the carriage of self inflating life jackets. The RYANAIR website ( see link) indicates they can be carried, but I have suffered confiscations on the 8th September by security at Bristol airport.
Dear Mr XXX
Thank you for contacting Bristol Airport.
I have spoken to our security team here and they have said you are able to take them with you.
Thanks

GrahamStu,
Staff at security (Liverpool is worst) can be a PITA, we've had to ask for a supervisor a couple of times. Some want to confiscate any lump of metal large or heavy enough to do damage to someone if you hit them with it so, put in hold baggage if any doubt.
Alternatively, you can send or, have gear delivered direct from suppliers to Algarve Freight http://www.algarvefreight.com/ who have a weekly van from Essex to Almancil, 15 mins drive from Bruce's. They will carry lead acid batteries and other hazardous goods airlines won't let you carry. Paying cash on collection is cheapest but they will deliver to the yard. Have fun in the sun, Graham.

Just arrived today, overcast but still 19deg. Had a pile of stuff in suitcase, all got thru ok. Left N Wales at 5, took off 7.30, on boat by 11.In the past I've used www.economycarhire.com for pick-up at Faro airport. There are several people in the yard with cars, sometimes they (Bobby the skirt comes to mind) will lend or hire. Talk to Ossie, (s/v Jessamine in row nearest the water) he will fill you in.
