I am currently in the process of renovating 3 old Blakes sea cocks. The sea cocks are in good working order, apart from some dirt and grime. I did however have to cut away some bolts and nuts in the process of extracting these fittings.
I need of 8 of the bigger sized bolts with corresponding nuts, which measure 70mm in length(including the cup-square bolt head). Also I require one of the smaller 55mm bolts and a corresponding nut. I have emailed Blakes directly about this but as of yet I have yet to receive a reply. I then got into contact with a distributor, who was extremely helpful and informative.
However the cost quoted by the distributor for these bolts is very prohibitive at £11 each for the bolts and nearly £3 per nut. It comes out as £151 with delivery and VAT. Can anyone think of an alternative solution? I really want to use the old Blakes sea cocks as they are fantastic pieces of equipment. I know using stainless steel is out of the question but would anyone know a source of bronze bolts and nuts that might prove to be a bit more affordable?
Cutting away those bolts seems very stupid now, but I am pretty sure they weren't going anywhere otherwise.
