Hi All,

I have been trying to sell my Sea Ray 290BR in Marbella since January and not a sniff...not even an enquiry!!!. Have offered to lower the price but the local office say nothing much happening in the market at the moment..Does any one have any other views or any ideas?

I guess this one, Cristy Beka II? It looks in very good condition. A 30foot bow rider is a bit of an unusual animal though and will have a limited market. And there will be a limited range of buyers for twin petrols. So the price has to be right. - I don't know what price level is right. Ebay is also a possibility?

wow... that is a specialist toy... I think I would agree with jfm, that will take some time to find the buyer who wants a twin petrol V8 30ft bow rider, but he's out there somewhere and I am sure its a load of fun!! :)

Hi Martin,

The market is very quiet down here, especially for the types of day boat. They were previously bought to go with an Apartment or Villa..... The Searay is a cracking boat but is a day boat and therfore is a limited market. Given it is also twin petrols it will be very hard to shift. The real estate market is dead, no one buying property and no one moving here for a better life! Petrol prices are also going up all the time and even in spain it is not cheap.

Given your situation I would bite the bullet and reduce it further. I sold an 8 year old Regal 2860 with twin Petrols for under £30k a few years ago.

Given the Euro Exchange rate as well I would drop it to €35,000 which is just under £30k. However you may have to consider silly offers or part exchanges.

Ironically myself and a friend were looking for such a boat earlier this year but I could not sell my smaller 20ft Centre Console day boat....even at a 50% loss at only two years old! There are no day boat buyers around yet.

Good luck but I would bite the bullet and sell her for €35k.

Hey ..good detective work JFM!!!

yes, i think you are all right and i have only just realised what a specialist boat she is...and Nautorius is right, they are mainly owned by peeps with a villa or house and used as a day boat.. I never thought of it that way as in Marbella, Puerto Banus and Sotogrande they are lined up like soldiers in the marinas..

She is a fab toy though...first time i took her out i went solo..it was a good job too..it was a flat calm sea and i put her into a tight port turn..nearly knocked myself out on the radar arch as my head snapped to starboard..:-) The second time, i took the wife and kids, the kids love it when we do donuts and this manouver was first on the list of requests...I gingerly explained about the G force and asked everyone to hold on tight... of course Mrs S knew better and as a result was physically ejected from her seat and thrown across the boat...landed on her A£$% so soft landing and no damange done :-)...but did give me a new respect for the boats capability though

Have suggested dropping the price to MM but their view was that the market was dead so no point. In the meanwhile have got someone to list it on EBay for me.. Would consider a trade in as it would be nice to have something to play with while on my hols but not sure i would get it past Mrs S as she doesnt like small boats!!

No market is so dead that something wont sell at a price.....

Would someone take it off your hands if it was free? I'm guessing the answer is yes?

If so, its' value is somewhere between £0 and whatever you are asking - it aint rocket science. Your brokers dont seem to want to help you find that price, so perhaps you need to enlist someone elses help.

yes I wondered about the storage fees being a barrier to them selling it bit I think thats not the case here..I have a really good relationship with the team there and I am considering moving my Princess round to there once the Sea Ray is sold. So they would potentially get more money if they sold her.

As you rightly say, every thing has its price, and if a punter came along i would consider any offer...but as far as i know, punters are few in that part of the world at the mo....i think as Nautorious said the market there is dead... I am going to try the ebay route and offer to ship her anywhere in the price...you never know, some nice far eastern boater may fancy her. I hear they have a lot of spare cash over there :-)

Offering to ship anywhere foc is a wise marketing move. Many people just would not bid on the boat as its in Spain and they are not... Obviously import duties are going to be there only issue. Do report back if / when it sells!

Martin,

One last thing. Marina Marbella are the Main Sea Ray Agent. It is not in their interest to see the value of Secondhand boats plummet! If soemone looking at a new version of your boat circa €110,000 and they see an 8 year old one for €30,000 it may make them think twice.

Maybe there are other dealers that would list it as well? I agree the Ebay route is good to go and the idea of delivery as well. Your boat will sell at the right price, I love them and if I could shift my little one I would have been looking for such a boat. However we now have a slight change of plans (and two boats already down here)

good luck

Paul

The Japs like the brand new models though, with our own local market awash with their hardly used, second hand vessels.
Great bargins to be had, just like their second hand performance motor vehicles.

Good luck with the sale, your boat looks, and no doubt goes, great.
