Spain (Biscay) broker needed for 35\' cat

A good friend is a solicitor. She knows nothing about sailing. She is probating a will.

Amongst the decedent's assets is a 1997 35' Fountain Pajot cruising cat moored in a marina in La Coruna, Spain.

She has asked my help in finding a broker who can handle the sale. Similar boats in Europe are on offer for euro 125,000 to 140,000. Apparently the boat is in good condition, decedent used it each summer for past several years.
VAT paid, perfect paper trail re ownership, no lien on the boat.

Any suggestions for an honest broker?

If and when a broker is chosen we will fly out to the boat, deal with broker, remove personal items from boat, check all is okay for sale and wait for the cash.

Many thanks, PM or post here.

Re: Spain (Biscay) broker needed for 35\' cat

When I had to sell my Iroquois, I found very few brokers interested in multihulls. In the end, I did so through multihull world. http://www.multihullworld.com. They are a very reliable firm, with sensible advice about what to do/what not to do to make the vessel marketable, valuation etc... but their commission rates, in common with most brokers is very high. They do have an international presence, useful for the your sort of vessel and if you are UK based and the vessel abroad. If it doesn't sell quickly, the cost of marina berthing will rapidly impact on the final proceeds of sale. Hope this helps.

Second recommendation for Multihull world. If you are serious about buying a Cat in the UK I can't see how you won't be visiting them. They are a very friendly lot and stand out a country mile from every other broker I have ever talked to in terms of general attitude let alone specialising in multihulls.

We did in the end by our privately, and I would normally recommend this but from the sounds of "your" situation you will need a professional broker.

And let's face it there aren't many professional brokers around - mono or multi !
