Due to a change of job I'm considering moving Talulah (Najad 390, Draught 1.85m) to Soverign Harbour Marina.
Any one there care to share their experience?
Then of course their's refer a friend. Send a PM.

I quite like visiting Sovereign, it's well-run. If I have a concern, it's the proliferation of pot markers in the area immediately outside.

I had a similar problem myself once when visiting. My rudder got fouled on some idiot's fishing gear. The marina said they couldn't assist with their workboat as I was outside the marina boundary. I refused to allow the lifeboat to be called out. I motored flat-out for some time, dragging a load of gear attached to my rudder, until I was just inside the marina boundary, when the marina's workboat came and removed the offending fishing gear. It turned out that the owner of the fishing gear was a marina resident who used cheap floating line. After a full and frank discussion, the marina management lifted my boat for free to inspect for damage, and gave me another couple of nights for free.

To clarify things a little. The skipper of the yacht involved in the incident called up the coastguard to alert them to his predicament. The coastguard did the usual and called out the lifeboat who couldn't get the gear free so towed the yacht, gear and all, to the marina. On the way the fishing gear dropped off so it was really back to the marina for a check for damage.

And no, it wasn't me but a cruising friend. :)

Technically, they weren't responsible, but were probably embarrassed that a marina resident was using incorrect fishing gear right next to the marina's "safe water" mark!

So you blagged / bullied a tow, lift and extra days in the marina for something that in no way of the imagination is down to them. It's no wonder the rest of us have to pay so much.

Probably what you were doing when you failed to notice the pot marker. So answer the question. Why was the marina responsible for your mishap? You admit to towing the problem why didn't you sort it out yourself?

I saw the pot marker and avoided it. What I hadn't expected or seen was loads of floating line. When the boat was lifted, I was approached by several residents who told me that the "fisherman" involved was known to use floating line in the close vicinity of the marina channel, and that the marina management had been made aware of this. I imagine their failure to act, especially in view of their self-proclaimed "safe water" mark, was an important factor in their decision.

Still don't see how the marina can be expected to be responsible for that, especially as you clearly towed the problem into their area. Whatever, clearly bullying and pompous behaviour gets results, must try harder!
PS. Saw a similar attitude recently in the Channel Islands. Dutch boat filled up with 850 l of diesel at 59p / l and asked for a discount!
Subject closed. Boring!

Hi Talulah,

I've literally just moved my new boat there. We arrived yesterday after a 60 mile motor in dead calm, on possibly the busiest afternoon of the year (locks were a bit interesting...!) and am very happy to help.

What would you like to know?

Am also happy to refer you!
