Southwold \" Rip-off\"

Just back from a very pleasant week on the East Coast, visited Southwold (on springs) found No facilities offered by Waveney District Council (harbour authority) & only RIPPED OFF £ 14-25 PER NIGHT FOR MOORING ON A STAGING THAT THEY DIDN’T OWN..
On the plus side Adnams “Barley Mow”

Re: Southwold \" Rip-off\"

Glad you enjoyed yourself. Pity it wasn't an Indian Summer. Southwold does sound a ripoff at that rate.

Re: Southwold \" Rip-off\"

Can't believe you had to pay at Southwold it's sh*thole. Picked up a boat there this summer with a friend and wouldn't stop there unless really desperate. 1 place you could really say you should be paid to stay at.

Re: Southwold \" Rip-off\"

After returning from Ostend I was charged £13 for bringing my inflatable ashore at Titchmarsh Marina and charged another £13 the following week for throwing it back in.

Re: Southwold \" Rip-off\"

I'm almost afraid to ask, but I'm having to move my boat (26', twinkeel) from Scotland to Lowestoft fairly soon. Does anybody know of any moorings in the Lowestoft area please?

Re: Southwold " Rip-off"

Let me just say that if you have a problem you should seriously ask yourself whether it wouldn't be better to sink than to ask for help, especially after the pubs have opened.

Pity, because the place has an unspoilt charm that's hard to find elsewhere.

Re: Southwold \" Rip-off\"

Yes. Lost a blade. Yet another rip off. they Charged me 750Euros to fix it. I never received a bill for the prop but add whatever it wasthat to the two hours labour it seems expensive to me. I meant to write before as I remember seeeing you waiting at the port entrance whilst being tossed around by what felt like a F7-8. Isn't it amazing how the port lights are green until approx half mile off they see the ensign and then turn red.

Sorry. I don't normally whinge but the pocket has taken a serious hiding of late.

Re: Southwold \" Rip-off\"

Yep, that was us you saw being tossed around - 36kts of wind on the nose. Not very nice. And it's like they see us coming, let us get nearly there & then turn the lights red. Took another 30 mins for the ferry finally to come out.
Still, not worth to run the lights - read in one of the mags that a UK sailor got fined heavily when he supposedly ignored them.

One expensive prop - we had to use the guy the fixed your prop for repairs to our diode splitter. Charged 35 euros for 1 hours work. Seemed reasonable to me at the time.

Re: Southwold \" Rip-off\"

I'm surprised - the last time I was at Southwold - last year. I was only charged about £6 if I remember correctly, albeit for a 27' boat. BUT, that's not as expensive as it would be in the Solent/South Coast. You should have gone further south into the Deben, very nice but watch the Bar!
