As I'm a Premier Marina bertholder I'm thinking of using one of my 'free nights' by visiting Southsea Marina but, having never visited before, I was wondering if anyone can give me their views on the place?

Cheers, Allan

I was there last week !

great little place.
access channel narrow but full tide access with waiting pontoon.

Current can be strong in main channel into langston, standing waves can form for 100 m outside lifeboat station on an outgoing wind against tide but nothing too serious for you, might need to reassure crew on the way out that it is only 100m of waves.

Automatic lift up/down Cil opens HW +/- 3 traffic lights are clear green open , red closed, good news is no locking queues .

Indian restaurant well worth booking, takes some beating , try the 'Dim Daka ' :D

Shower blocks are serviceable , very nice , large private cubical but not in the same 5* class as Chichester and port solent .

Thanks for the positive responses........the marina sounds good, though it's a pity it's an Indian restaurant, as my kids and me HATE curry!! :(

Then be aware that although the marina is nice - and Daka's review is better as he's just been - it is remote...

You're a long walk away from any other pubs/restaurants/eateries....... you could walk to the end of the road and catch the ferry over to the Ferryboat Inn on Hayling but you need to be careful about last ferry times.... the other direction, it's about a mile or so to the start of the Albert Road and the shops/pubs.... in terms of non-indian then the closes is probably the Eastney Tavern (good pub grub)....

All good advice, well written , good links :)

Just as an update there is another English Bar opened on site under the Bombay bay, does some food.

ferry to pub is an excellent suggestion.:)

Walking west and keeping left down an 8ft is a short walk to the holiday camp club which is an excellent value english pub , bar food .

Wouldnt normally recommend that one but thought it acceptable seeing as the post is about a cheapskate freebie stop over :D

I didnt used to like Indian until I went to the Bombay Bay, I think you should try it, its not the usual slop !
