At 04:15 approx on Sunday, the cill at Southsea Marina failed to lift as the tide fell, apparently due to some obstruction. The cill eventually freed itself but with some damage, and the waterlevel inside only 1/2 metre below normal.

The marina staff were in by 04:35 and proceeded to apply the emergency chains to hold the cill up should this type of event occur. However, when the flood began the pressure of the incoming tide was such that the cill was damaged. This meant that the water was unlikely to be retained at the next ebb.

The staff have had divers and a crane working all day to place timbers either side of the cill to retain the marina level and allow repairs.

At time of writing at all seems to be holding. Work will be carried out during low water only and it looks like no access for a couple of days. The waiting pontoon is a bit busy.

Just want to say "nice one" to Glynn (manager), Rupert, Matt' and all the others.
