southend pier

Tomorrow (Thursday) they are lifting the 170 ton new structure to be plonked on the end of the pier. A new pavilion has been built on shore.

Things that go bump on the end of Southend Pier :eek:

You've changed your name or a new owner of Gentle Nimbus??

They need to put the amusements and pub back, and serve fish and chips again. Very dissapointed to walk all the way to the end of the pier to find out chips not allowed due to elf and safety. Cold comforts only.

Caught the train back. My last visit I think.

Southend went downhill when they closed Never Never Land in the 60's - fond memories

A lukewarm cuppa is available at the caff

Now we got your cultchure it will be the 'appening place. Don't turn your back on a rising star  The UK Lambetta Club had a national rally here last weekend - like a swarm of bees it were.

Taking young kids crabbing is the best use of the pier since the Royal Daffodil stopped doing trips to Margit and Hernia Bay and even foreign.

A £3m cultural centre for Southend. I suppose in an infinite universe all things eventually are possible although I am begining to suspect I have been teleported to a parallel universe.

Having liaised with Southend Council regarding their development 'schemes', believe me, you'd be better off asking a collaboration of Basil Brush, Mr Blobby and Sooty to plan regeneration of Southend..

'Heads up bottoms' springs to mind..

i was told of the arrival of the cultural centre at the interclub meeting
hopefully this one will not burn down or get rammed by a low flying
ship or fishing boat
apparantly you can hire the space from sos council
larger top dave also known as gentle nimbus

Glad to see the pier is on the up. My first job, it lasted a day, there was no way I was going to prep a mountain of spuds after doing two yrs at Southend College doing city and guilds, was at the restaurant at the end of the pier. All the lads at college fancied Susan Smith, wonder what happened to her? Funny the thing you remember from 40yrs ago, when your memory is jogged by a post on the forum.
