Weather & Sea State permitting I am hoping to go down to watch the air show on either Sat or Sun.

I have "done" Clacton a couple of times which if the sea is calm is great, as anchored Yachts get a fantastic view of the action.

Does anyone know if they have a designated anchorage for yachts and where is it ?

Thanks

They have a no-go zone marked by orange buoys (already there). Two lines of buoys which mark the east-west runway. So anchor outside those in the Ray about in line with the Cliffs Pavilion. Be prepared for some noise  An excellent place to view to show if it is not too choppy. Alternatively putter up and down the Ray.

Picking up crew from the end of the Pier

Thanks for that...

 Another Question

Does anyone know if its possible to pick up/drop off crew from the end of Southend Pier ?

No you can't - the end of the pier is very unfriendly unless you are a lifeboat or a tall ship. That was the downside of having a boat at Westcliff - nowhere on the north shore to go alongside. The only place is Bell Wharf at HW and then you must follow the channel in. At LW it is possible and easy to walk out to the Ray from Chalkwell (old plimsoles or Crocs a must) - there's the remains of a hard - and then pick them up by dinghy. We did that a few years ago but it helps to be local and with the airshow on the seafront is closed and it won't be easy to park anywhere near the seafront.
