I vaguely recall seeing an event badged up as this last year. Is there such a show that anyone might care to say is worth visiting?

I had a google moment just now but lost count at the fourth company purporting to be the Southampton Used Boat Show. Perhaps there's my answer then?

Think Swanwick was the first; also now at Hamble Point and Deacons at Bursledon. You can go a day or two early, the boats will be there.

The biggest is at Swanwick, and this year it's definitely worth a visit to look around and place an offer on a marvellous Hardy Seawings 305 that'll be there at a laughably low price for such a classic and well kept craft....... ;);)

Look here for show info.

Are there many used boats at SIBS?

AFAIK.All the boats at the actual show are new.It is the surrounding boatyards that gather together some of last years unsold "waifs and strays" from outside the area in one place.
It an excellent chance to have a look at a lot of boats in one boatyard, as opposed to spending the entire day driving 200 miles just to look at one boat.

I'm based at Swanwick and they always seem to have a lot of boats in the show, with all the on site brokers participating.

Swanwick also do a good park and ride deal to SIBS at £12 each to include tickets to the show, so if you're not spending all day looking at the new stuff you can conveniently do both.

There will be lots at deacons too and it's on the opposite bank to swanwick, right by a bridge so a short stroll. The deacons ones are on the hard allowing you to browse around, and they have comprehensive specs for all the boats, they hold the documents and history for inspection etc. I presume swanwick is well organised too.

Deacons have over 50 booked in already and that is increasing so with swanwick as well you're probably looking at around 200 used boats in total in a small area.

Definitely worth going to the hamble to browse around both if you're making the effort to come to Southampton. It's a short taxi ride (5.7 miles to be precise!) and Southampton taxis are cheap - there is a train station too but not worth the effort as you won't save much.

There is also a large force 4 in Deacons (the old aladin's cave), plus another force 4 and yachtmail chandleries between deacons and swanwick to browse. It's only a short walk to the famous chandlery barge in foulkes yard too. Add to that marinepower in deacons for yanmar and mercruiser spares, plus RK marine over the road fo volvo.

In fact why bother with the actual boat show just go to bursledon on the hamble!!

Hmmm are you sure about that....;)

We'll in previous years, other than the pre-owned that manufacturers con owners to bring along as demo's, I aint seen any for sale at Mayflower Park, which is what I call SIBS.

If you know different, where are they hiding them then?

PS, on a more important point, where are they going to hide the Guiness Bar again this year? Why isn't where all can enjoy, not simply tucked away where raggies tremble to tread? Surely its not just the Birmingham Navy lot who inbibe this stuff! :D

Being slightly sarcastic.......there will of course be new boats and models there but look closely and you may find a few sharing a birthday...

As for Guinness...don't get time for boozing....from what I understand the same place but its not the proper Guinness bar and has not been for a while, just a converted portaloo selling poorly poured pints...and dont even ask for a receipt...not that I would of course
