Just got this months MBM with the SBS guide inside. Just out of interest is anyone considering visiting on a specific day when some of us could get together for a 1hr or so bonding session e.g. a beer or two /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

If I am there on the 14th I will buy you a beer /forums/images/icons/wink.gif I don't know which of the two days I will be there yet, it gets a bit expensive doing both, plus most of the decent hotels are fully booked. If the worst comes to the worst and I can't make it in on the 14th, I could always meet you round the back on that day by the stash /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Didnt go last year, as year before traffic was so appalling, and god knows what happened to anyone trying to park after about 10.am... is it always that bad? Think we spent 6-7hrs in the car that day (from London). Completely ruined my memory of those cuties on the S-Seeker stand.

So is security lax then Milltech?

I pressume you will have a stand there???

Went to the SBS last year for the first time, We stayed with friends in Oxfordshire to travel down on the Sat. morning. My friend said by-pass the park and ride car parks that they put on for the show and head for the town centre, and park in the shopping centre car park.
Anyway big queue on motorway for park and ride, i went straight past it into multi-storey, plenty of spaces. Walk across road into entrance for Boat show.

At the end of the day the car park cost me £5 for the whole day.

I don't know whether most of you go with pre-booked tickets for the show.
But a wee tip for you, it is cheaper to go in as a group, When we joined the queue last year we asked the people infront of us and the people behind us to all buy tickets togeather, ths making it a group entry. I think it was 10 or 12 people that was required.. ( Remember i am a Scot)/forums/images/icons/cool.gif

Cheers...

Alistair is spot on. Do not go to the park and ride. Stay on motorway, head for town centre, then town quay, then head to the show, and park in the multistory. You can then walk right to the show, 300m. The car park is wierd, you can enter it on level zero at one side, and you can also get in off a different street at level 3 or 4, must be some steep banking. If you return late, mebbe after 8pm, the level zero exit is locked, but drive up a few levels and get out at the other exit. This is much better than park/ride, I have used both

That's exactly what we did last year. Our group of 4 asked the people behind us (a group from Wales I think) and they asked the couple behind them. I think it was 10 people you needed to get - did get a funny look from the couple who were behind our ad hoc group though - seems they didn't think of joining us or doing likewise.

Its fairly obvious when you pay for ten tickets though and have to count out the money in fivers and pound coins. I think they've changed it for this year so that groups have to book in advance.

Getting a better deal this year though - complimentary tickets from my dad's work!

I'm going on the 20th by the way.

Actually pretty good at Southampton, also at London if you're a customer. But I speak from the bitter experience of losing about £3,000 last year, £1200 this year in GPS units stolen off the stand overnight.

That leaves security and the cleaners (supposedly supervised).

Pete,
Never mind the hotels. Drive down the night before with the boat, and spend the night in OV. This way you miss all the traffic, get free ride in bus from marina to show, save on hotel bills, and spend even more money on those "essentials"

Now that's a good idea, but I would have to leave SWMBO at home /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif She is not really used to the size of accommodation I can offer her on the boat. She seems to believe that life is too short to be cramped up sleeping with generators, kettles, spare lights, water pumps, battery booster, spare GPS, spare prop, toasters, ropes, oars, spare engine, dinghy, e.t.c. I think an ultimatum will be coming that something will have to go, it's either some of the spares or her /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Still I am sure she will have a nice quiet time at home /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif BUT I would like her to have a look on a Rodman at the show (perhaps not the 38 to start), I think I could get her interested in investing in something with a wee bit more room /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Personally, I think the Galeon 330 looks like a good first bigger boat with what looks like excellent accomodation. You even get a spare cabin to pile all your 'junk' in Pete.

If you are only using the boat to sleep on then you won't need any of those spares, and SWMBO will be more comfortable.

If you are looking at Rodman at the show, (this may sound a bit strange) Goto the Rinker stand which is run by Cambrian Boat Sales and ask for a chap by the name of Cas, That is who i bought my boat from, and he is also a Rodman dealer, He may be able to advice you and give you prices.

Also tell him i was asking for him.

Cheers...
