When I was a kid, I once watched a small fishing boat butting its way through choppy waters northward from South Stack to North Stack and I wanted to be on that boat. 40 years later, job done! And here the video to prove it. It looks light, but that's my camera compensating, it was dusk to dark and we arrived in Holyhead harbour in pitch black. South Stack was a tad choppy so apologies for the video pitching around a bit.

Nice one! When was this taken? We were out on The Straits last Saturday and it was a bit on the choppy side there too.

Keep up at the Back.
See Dave's previous post.

Plus this Vid is Top Side of Anglesey.

Not the Straits.
Sheltered waters You are relativeley used too;)

Rough as H sometimes.
Just the place to visit with Your new Ship:p

Ahh, Yes, South Stack; like the Swellies, the Skerries, Harry Furlong etc etc - it's all about timing!!!! There is an inshore passage that generally avoids the worst of the overfalls, but it IS VERY close in and may seem more frightening than the waves.

We avoided it because it was a lee shore at the time, and very blowey!

As South Stack goes thats not too bad............ North Stack on the Ebb is much worse and the inside passage then is, IMHO only for the brave.

Now if you really want some fun try Carmel head when the wind blows.......... just ask Kwacker he's done it on Breeza

Ah yes, I am an old hand in these waters having served on and steered the hell ship Little Ship. I managed to keep the crew's morale together, but just south of the Skerries the chief steward threw the towel in and demanded we made for Holyhead.
I'd post the pictures if I knew how to.

Happy days, indeed. Your post reminded me of looking out towards a boat passing Middle Mouse many, many years ago and thinking the same. Then in 2001 I sailed past Middle Mouse as crew on a Rival 41 and we dropped anchor in the shadow of Wylfa as the sun was setting, before continuing our circumnavigation of Anglesey the next morning. Great stuff.

(Only came in the MoBo forum when I spotted the thread title in the list of new posts. I'll slip quietly back out again before anyone notices there's a raggie in here and the dogs are let loose...)
