Anyone anchored there overnight? I've spent a lunchtime there. THinking of anchoring there Friday night, 13mph Northerlies forecast. Any thoughts?

We stayed there a couple of years ago.

Should be fine in a Northerly but it depends if there is a swell from the weather this week. There is a strong Easterly blowing at the moment so it might be catching South Haven slightly.

I always remember hearing a loud bang on the deck around 03:00 in the morning, I went out to investigate but couldn't see anything obvious and we hadn't dragged anchor at all.

In the morning there was a puffin lying on the deck, we got chatting to people back at Dale the following day and apparently it is not un common for the puffins to fly into the masts at night. Im surprised that the anchor light didn't have an effect.

The anchor holding is fairly good there.

I dont know if you use this website but I always have a check to see what the swell is like -

Surprisingly it is fairly low at the moment.

We've stayed overnight on a number of occasions. Good holding on, I think, sand or shingle. We usually tuck up as close to The Neck as possible.

Take a good torch and shine it up, after dark. You'll see many Manx Shearwaters flying around. They're quite vocal, during the night, at this time of year.

I once spend an hour there trying to photograph puffins (during the day, of course). After about 300 exposures I ended up with a couple of mediocre pix. They just fly too quickly.

The seal cave is great and worth a visit. Talking of which i am renting sea kayaks, dinghys and outboards really cheap if any one needs one just for a one off cruise.

Stayed there a couple of times. There's a seal cave you can get into by dinghy. Lovely spot

We didn't make it, as it happened. We had such a good sail last Friday, we shot up past Skomer to a bay called Caerbwdi, near Caerfai on the St Davids peninsula.

Shelter from the North and West, a beautiful secluded spot. Good holding on sand, in 6m.
