South Devon Group - Social/Cruising

I also plan to be there.
Looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow. I shall be wearing a red carnation in my buttonhole. :)

Hope you have a successful evening. I'd like to be there but I'm not down in Devon until next week, owing to unavoidable duties connected with John Lewis furniture, pheasants and sheep dog. Oh, and Er Indoors I suppose.

Evening all! At pub - table 33 near fire! :D

Sorry I cant get to the mid week meets RC as I do not live locally. Would be interested in the ideas/plans/suggestions though for cruises etc... will keep an eye on the SD group posts. Have a great night :)

Robin, thanks for organising what proved to be an enjoyable evening. Looking forward to the next one in February.

Yes, I too enjoyed very much and it was good to meet you all. Thanks to those who came along and all those who expressed interest but couldn't make it.

As a brief update, we concluded that as many live or work away from Torbay but keep their boats here, a Friday night would probably be a better time than midweek. The next meet could therefore be the 3rd or 10th of February at The Thatched Tavern, Maidencombe. Please post or PM your preferences on days and dates. As a starting point, perhaps the 3rd as the first Friday is easy to remember?

With regards to location and warmer weather, we all thought that somewhere closer to marina's or 'on the water' locations like Brixham or Babbacombe would make good venues. The possibility of a BBQ on the beach was suggested along with some joint meets with neighbouring groups.

Looking forward to the next one. :D

Thanks Robin from us as well.

It was good to meet people.
We hope to make it to the next meeting as well.
Thatched Tavern will be open but the Penn Inn was much better than I thought it would be and could be very convenient for the future.

Mike

Thank you Robin for organizing this, it was good to meet you and the others. 3rd or 10th Feb are OK for me.

I suggest we do move the venue around, as that way we get to sample a few more watering holes.

Also the Bananashark place looks interesting.

Thanks Cookee, I think that's a great idea and I too would love to visit! I saw the boat at SBS, but you were busy at the time and we ran out of day... (Might do a 2 day this year!)

As NoviceRod says, moving around the area is also good - not only does it let us all sample the watering holes, but also evens up the traveling. Salcombe is very busy in the peak of the summer, but would make a great early season cruise destination and perhaps should be high on our list? I'm sure Cookee can suggest a good waterside watering hole there too... :D

Come to Salcombe when it's high tide at lunchtime and you can tie up outside the Island Street Bar and Grill - it's one of the few places in our area you can do that.

Let me know when you're coming and I'll make sure a table is booked for lunch or an evening meal during the week suits everyone - happy to open up for an early evening tour if that suits everyone, I'll try and persuade Kevin to be there as well - he's the very technical one!

Boats & Beer - that sounds like a very worthwhile trip! :D

Cookee, how many boats will their quayside take, or how long is it ? Never knew it existed for visitors to the Bar & Grill.

Seconded - does excellent carvery if we are still at your place in the evening.

If there is a demand I would do the tour at a mutually convenient time one evening and book a table at the pub for afterwards. I think the carvery is for weekends only but I could check?

Whisper - they have quite a bit of frontage but no pontoon, if there's a few people you could tie up bow to and get quite a few boats on there so long as they're not too big!
