South Coast Yacht Clubs

I am considering moving my yacht from East Coast to South Coast as I have had to house further inland!! It would now be more convenient for me to keep her on the South Coast as I am living fairly near the M3.
Can anyone recommend a yacht club that is accepting new members and has available moorings?

I suspect the answer may be dependant on the type and size of mooring required. Shoal draft moorings are always easier to come by. Give the gang a chance and fill in some Biography.

Try the the Royal Dorset Yacht Club in Weymouth. It has swing moorings available in Portland Harbour. At the other end of the scale the Weymouth and Portland Cruising Association has swing moorings available for £400 a year. These moorings will give you a ringside seat to watch the Olympics in 2012. Bearing in mind a swing mooring is only in commission from April till October you could try Dean and Redyhoff's new marina on Portland which is due to open in April 2008.

The Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes is very nice and thay have just built a new marina for their members! Give them a call.

Yes, but most club moorings are either swinging or pile, and are not 'walk ashore' so you can't really compare them. Also, clubs with moorings in popular places tend to have big waiting lists for moorings, or to allocate them on a ballot basis (RSnYC usd to do this. Does it still?).

Marchwood YC used to have moorings fairly readily available. Not sure if this is still the case.

You might try the RAF YC in Hamble, nice place and they have some moorings.

RAFYC, in common with most clubs in the area, allocate moorings on a yearly basis, from ballot. So you never know if you have one for next year or not. Draw is near end of calendar year.

The Royal Southampton has two club houses. one at Ocean Village, Southampton and one on the Beaulieu River with moorings, which makes it convenient and good value. Have a look at : http://www.rsyc.org.uk/ and give the seretary a call.
