Good Morning All

Please can anyone suggest or recommend a surveyor on UK South Coast (preferably Hampshire / Dorset) who would be familiar with Windy boats, or failing that Aquador or other boats that also have vinyl cored hulls ?

I have a Windy Tornado in my sights - a dream boat but quite old (22 years) and am excited but also quite nervous - wish me luck.

Thanks
John

Hi, if this is the blue hulled one I’m thinking of based at a big brokerage/marina in lymington that sell a lot of windy’s , a bit of advice on this boat based on when i viewed it;
  • Check the history - needs a FULL engine and drive service
  • Check the state of the fuel - think it has diesel bug
  • Needs a thorough above and below water line clean
  • Check the previous survey from last year to make sure those issues are resolved
The above list isn’t insurmountable, but make sure price and time to rectify work for you, and as you are doing, get a survey done.

Hi Colhel and Switch - thanks for the recommendations - that's very helpful.

Hi "Donkey" - thanks for that info - actually it's the grey-hulled one also in the same place that I'm interested in. From initial viewing it clearly has quite a serious issue with the windscreen frame rail having completely parted from the glass. It has been bodged before by a boatyard/"engineers" and has failed again now. I'm finding it difficult to find someone competent and available to do a proper repair, who understands the crucial issues - I've been warned by a competent person that boatyards/"engineers" are known to bodge this particular repair so it looks OK, but will fail again before long. Unfortunately that competent person cannot help with actually doing the job ! Now my plan is to ask the surveyor to oversee the repair, briefed on the crucial details of the process.
That same boat also has an obvious issue with one of the stern-drives. Nevertheless, I'm keen to go ahead if these problems (and whatever emerges from a full survey) can be overcome at a reasonable cost.

Julian Smith at Hamble Marine Surveys. Great for purchasers, not so good for sellers.

He found some serious issues on a boat I was in the process of purchasing and as a result I walked away - it's the best £800 I ever spent.

interesting, I thought blade was in great condition when I viewed, albeit missing a bit of updating to things like the electronics, canopy etc. So you’ve done well to spot what you have. Have you seen all the paper and the electronic records of work done- it is significant!
