A freind of mine is thinking about buying a small(ish) yacht and putting her on a swinging mooring East of Portsmouth , he's been told that he can get one for £200 a year . Anyone know if this is likely ?? , seems very cheap to me

sounds like langstone harbour

here

they have swinging moorings, from memory under 30' but I cant be sure ......... enquired a couple of years ago so things might have changed now

extract of letter from them -

Thank you for your enquiry regarding moorings in Langstone Harbour. The Board have two types of moorings, either deep water or tidal. Deep water moorings are laid and maintained by the Board and the cost will vary according to the length of the vessel and the location of the mooring. Tidal moorings are only suitable for vessels which will sit on the mud and we do not recommend anything over a 2'6" draft on these moorings. Tidal moorings are laid and maintained by the mooring holder. The costs are displayed on our website www.langstoneharbour.org.uk. If you would like to apply for a mooring in the harbour you will need to complete an application form but I will need to know the boat details. At the present time I only have a few deep water moorings available and I am receiving enquiries all the time. If you would like to discuss your requirements further please ring me on 023 92463419 between 09.30 and 16.30 hrs, Tuesday-Friday.

It can only be Langstone. Get him to go and have a look at the current at half ebb and see if he wants to be rowing his tender in that before he pays his deposit.

You mean that you can actually find moorings for swingers now? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Wow! Is there no end to this consumer orientated marketing? To think that when I was young enough to be a swinger it was all done secretely in suburbian semis! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Quick question then; do I have to own a yacht to be alloted a swingers mooring? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif No wonder you coyly say that it is for a friend of yours! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Oh please don't think it's me that's thinking of moving to the south , my freind is a motorboater that's thinking about buying a yacht after he heard I'd bought one , but he's closer to the south than I am and I prefer to keep Ellie on a free mooring here /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm glad to hear there are places for PBO types still.

[/ QUOTE ] There are although we are probably based in one of last of them. Here The moorings are out of shot to the right

What ever happend to the overpriced marina next door though?

They are there!. I have just given one up at Girt Rythe in Chichester Harbour. There may be a waiting list though. Last year it cost me just over £200 for my 24 to include tender fee and harbour dues. Tender beach mooring was free. Dried out though. Lovely location too.

Having had boats in Langstone for quite a few years before moving round to Hayling ... (Ok - I've no boats there now since nov. 2006 ....) I find the post interesting quoting current in Langstone ! I don't recall many moorings in the entrance to Langstone where the real current is ...
I had moorings .... Havant end - no problem, Sinah - no problem, Tudor top of Eastern Road end - no problem ... In fact I can say that apart from Langstone being a large harbour that can get rough with strong weather ... current is not a problem except when you get near to the entrance inside or out ... but same goes for Portsmouth and Chichester entrances ....

Back to original question ... £200 ? Not many but odd ones yes in Langstone and possibly out of way reaches of Chichester ?
But don't forget there is Harbour charge on top ...

I was talking to Dave last night about this . There has been a lot of talk about sailing at Cuchilo towers over the last week and im just looking into it .
The Harbour charges sound like they could bump up the costs ?

Glad to see you came out of the closet James /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif someone thought I was talking about myself /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
