South Coast Marinas

Re: Have a look up the road

If you have a motor boat you can get in and out of Chichester marina at almost all states of the tide. There is also 3-4 hrs of free flow through the lock and not a long wait if it's not. It's a fantastic friendly marina, one of the best I have been to.
premier-marinas.co.uk put in the length of the boat and it'll tell you how much.

Re: Have a look up the road

OK Chris., haven't spotted that one but North Moreton is waaay upstream and further up you go the less they cost. There is a small property on the Caversham reach for sale at £695k but access is abysmal and it is overlooked by neighbours. Suzanne would like it though because the Reading Pop Festival is held in the fields opposite every year ;-)

Re: PS queues

Sorry I can't agree. Maybe berth holders are treated better than visitors. My last 2 visits to PS I waited 2.5 hours on one to get out and 1hr5mins on the other.

IMHO go somewhere else without the lock if you can find somewhere. Most if not all marinas say they have waiting lists.

Re: PS queues

Agreed. We visited last August Bank Holiday and waited 2 hrs. The marina staff are friendly and efficient but there just is'nt enough lock capacity and no waiting pontoon now that Sunsail occupy it. I dont believe that berth holders get any priority over visitors but I noticed that they radioed the marina to get into the lock queue well before they actually arrived.
I dont think its worth paying exhorbitant mooring charges if a large chunk of your boating time is wasted waiting for locks but then Thames boaters are used to that!

Agreed.
We had a year in PSolent and left mainly due to missing a powerboat race due to
1hr 40min lock queue. In them days, they refused to run a booking queue, you had to motor up and b****r around, jockeying for position. If you tied up to the waiting pontoon, everyone else pushed in etc etc The year after we left, they introduced booking in to the queue by VHF (just our luck I guess)

BTW, did/does anyone who is there now note high anode consumption?
We had Vlvo DuoPrpops and the anodes were finished by August, never had anywhere like that elsewhere.

We are based at Shamrock Quay as well and totally agree with you. It takes me from Farnborough to the marina about 50mins and on bad days in summer can be 1.5hrs.

They have just refurbished the Shower block and marina office (completely rebuilt) and now pretty good. I feel the marina is a good all rounder, however be careful with the outer berths the river can be quite strong at times and could make berthing fun! I am on the inner berths much better.

I think you'll find all the marinas are full. The other weekend at Shamrock I spoke to a family who were looking for a berth. They were told by the staff that they could not even go on the waiting list, don't know how true that is.
