I need to buy 4 of these bulbs. They seem very expensive in chandlers.

Could they be cheaper somewhere else , say auto shops etc ?

Many Thanks

Try Maplin Electronics. 5w bulbs for £0.49.

ASAP Supplies are a very good supplier of electrical and mechanical goods for marine & auto use
Their prices are often about 50% of what chandlers charge - they have most Nav light bulbs styles on their web site

have you the same as me, the aqua 45 range with dimples rather than points on the festoons. No one else does them, but you can break the old ones off the dudd bulb and slip them over the pointy kind.

Hope this helps if this is the case.

Just got some from vintage car restorer 50p each , but pointy instead of concave .

Another trick to avoid being ripped is to drill the dimples out of the contacts and use the more easily obtained pointy ended (presumably festoon bulbs).

Good luck,

Michael.

Thanks everyone !

Thanks to your help I have found a source where they cost one pound forty pence each as opposed to six pounds fifty each in a chandler.

The only difference is that they are 21w instead of 25w - no big deal.

Julian

Thanks for the tips

Regards
Max

What you have found sounds like automotive bulbs. The problem you may find is the design of the filaments. Nav light bulbs have the filaments orientated axially to comply with the the requirement to cut off the arc of visibility cleanly at the correct angle. They are also on a special support which does not obsure the filament.

You may not consider this matters though.

Thanks Vic - Did not know this but makes good sense.

I have an old bulb which has an anchor motif stamped on it probably for the reasons you state.

I still have an original bulb and will compare them with the new ones .
