I need a couple of ¼" UNC screws 2" long. I've searched the internet but can't find any. Does anyone know an on-line supplier? My local s/s fixings source only has metric.

I'm guessing it is UNC but it could be Whitworth and I'm not sure I could tell the difference. The screws fit into a gooseneck fitting on a 1979 mast. The old ones are still useable but it took 4 visits to the boat to remove them so they aren't in pristine condition.

Thank you for any suggestions.

I have tried to get stainless imperial fasteners in the past. I tried all the ‘we sell everything’ places without any luck – ‘nah mate, haven’t seen one of them for ages’. I ordered from the US without any problems. I think one I used was called Bosun’s Locker. Not that much more expensive and fairly prompt in delivery.

UNC is the same as Whitworth up to 5/16. Your best bet would be D Middleton in Yorkshire. He does a large range of stainless screws etc. If you dont have any luck, let me know as I have a good stock of that sort of thing. Regards Paul

Both ¼" UNC and Whitworth are 20 tpi. Only the thread forms are different. It would be difficult to tell them apart and for all but critical purposes they can usually be interchanged

A British made fitting from the late 1970s could very well be Whitworth.

Tried Seascrew and A2A4 ? The latter better for small orders I think.

In the UK you stand a better chance of finding Whitworth than UNC although just checked A2A4 website and they have UNC and have ¼" X 2" hex head screws.

Thanks to everyone for their replies and particularly to Paul for your kind offer.

I should be able to buy the screws from one of the sources mentioned. I was hoping to get slotted screws with a domed head (like the originals) but a hexagonal head would be OK.

UNF and UNC available as Aircraft fasteners - but expensive. Try Lentern in Hawkwell Essex, or Flightspares.
