Source of good quality split rings?

Does anyone have a good source of high quality s/s split rings for guard wire fastenings/ halyard shackles etc.

The holt ones I get from the chandlers only seem to last a season of two...

I have and do use those same ones from Seascrew and they seems good to me.
I tried an eBay source once. Not good.

I take some 316 tig welding wire and wrap it round a bolt of the required size.

Don't use rings, the can catch on ropes and pull right off even if taped. Use split pins

I would have thought that split pins are more likely to catch than rings.

Quite. Horses for courses. I use rings on non-critical items and they are much easier to tape over. Self-amalgamating tape lasts far longer than vinyl.

+1 for split rings (sold as SS Key rings). I changed to these...

Split pins are probably more likely to catch but they won't pull out like rings will.

I suffered for years with snags, tears, scratches etc with spilt pins and now use rings for almost everything that isn't a "permanent" joint. Haven't yet had a ring snag anything, best of all not snag my skin!
