I was told at the SBS, that (at least) three suppliers of polymeric engine room soundproofing all buy from the same (British) manufacturer. One of these suppliers is Halyard. As Halyard are the only ones to publish graphs of performance, is it safe to assume that, for the same description and thickness, the performance from all these suppliers will be the same?

In view of the price differences on offer, and the effort required to install in an engine room, one needs to be sure before seizing what appears to be a bargain.

Fitted Halyard and performance is very good.

Actual engine noise is now almost non-existent (tappets, air-intake, engine knock etc) but the noise of the engine transmitted through the hull from the engine mounts is still very significant, so overall, the result is not what we wanted.

But the engine is quiet now, the rest we still have to deal with.

And how did they compare withthose from Halyard?

I asked ASAP for figures and they returned dimensions, compositions etc but not attenuation figures. I repeated that request at SBS;- are the omissions now rectified? (I 'spose I could look myself but I'm working).

Generally speaking but not specifically about sound proofing.

Sometimes manufaturers make producs for several suppliers all to a different spec as what is required from the distributor. This means that althouhg the manufacturer is the same because they have all the tools and contacts etc, the product and quality sometimes can be totally different.
