Depends. My engine bilge is separated from the main bilge, to contain any fuel or oil spills. The air intake is through the binnacle, via a slightly indirect route to avoid sound getting out that way.

Point taken.
So do you have separate bilge for and aft of your engine bilge of is there away for any bilge water to collect at one point.
On my boat I have a removable drip tray under the engine to contain any fuel or oil spills.

Any ideas then for closing the gap between the exhaust and the bulkhead? I dont want to restrict the movement as something will break. Air can be drawn from the bilge but I had blocked this route off as I thought the sound would resonate under the floor.
