Sound insulation for a hull

Has anyone tried lining the inside of a hill to reduce the impact of wave slap in bow cabins?

Used to use some pretty impressive stuff when doing high end cars Mauguit stuff years ago, I wonder if a similar modern stick on sound absorbing something would have any affect?

The wave slapping sound is coming through the hull so the solution is to increase the mass it has to travel through so a sheet of lead would be good but undesirable for obvious reasons. Foam etc are no good.
I am confused as to why anyone should try to line the inside of a hill to fix the problem!

In my old trawler the wave slapping noise, rather than being reduced, simply did not exist.
In a few occasions when the wind turned in the night and built up some waves, it was only the boat pitching that used to wake us up - never the slapping noise.
She was THAT quiet, I kid you not!

Yes, there in nothing like mass for sound insulation, really nothing.
All my nights up to now where spent on heavy/thick hulled boats (Timber/Steel) and there was absolutely no slapping noise on any of them.
My latest boat is GRP and the noise is astonishing. I could not believe the RACKET the first night i stayed onboard.
Tried ear-plugs but they are nearly as annoying as the noise itself.
Next boat this hull noise thing is going to the top of the list.
I do believe given time one would blank it out automatically, but at the moment i am not in a position to spend that time.

Persist with the ear plugs. Thats been my only solution over the years to wave slap at anchor. It cuts out other unwanted sounds as well:rolleyes:
