Soton Boat show: pretty awful salesmen

Has any one actually ever said outright, 'I am not interested in buying a boat I am just curious and wanted a look around.'
What would the reaction be, maybe the salesperson would be pleased that you were honest or would it likely get you thrown off or not allowed to look around the boat. Does the purchse of an entrance ticket include the right to look around the boats. Genuinely interested in what people think about this.

I used to do much that at Southampton back in the early 80s and was always well treated, but back then try it at Earls Court and you were lucky if you got given a brochure.

I often say this. Pick a moment when the boat is not full, so you are not impeding a potential sale, and it means the salesman can relax and maybe even chat a bit.

Most would be very pleased to hear that and happily show you aboard.

The problem is those that pretend. I call it boat show fever.

I think it may be because the broker immediately engages them at a high level, as if they are buying there and then, so they go along with it and are almost too embarrassed to say "we're just looking".

But I have to say I am guilty too. To the tune of two bottles of Champagne at LIBS 10 years ago courtesy of Beneteau. I had just bought a Westerly the week before but the salesman knew I was going long distance and wanted to sell me a 411. :o
