From time to time I use the Raymarine technical forum http://raymarine.ning.com/forum, having found what I thought was a problem with the latest release of thier 'Lighthouse' software for my chart plotter (or what Raymarine call a multifunction display) I tried to post this on thier forum but then received an e-mail saying that only customers from the USA were allowed to contribute! :(

Hrumph!

Yes, I discovered this too and it is very irritating, especially as I was submitting a bug report (there's a lot of them in the latest software for the e-series). So I though stuff 'em, and won't submit the report.

However, can you not just change location to USA? i haven't tried it yet, but will next time.

Are you sure you are not connecting to Raymarine Inc?

How curious, I had been contemplating posting something on here about the latest version 11 plotter firmware. I'm guessing I'm not the only one that thinks they've seriously dropped the ball?

My two main gripes:

The new alarm is ridiculous. They've gone from an annoying, insistent alarm that would certainly get your attention, to a pitiful three beeps every 10 mins (exaggerating) that sounds more like a "Excuse me, I'm sorry, I don't want to disturb, but, if you really don't mind, awfully, could I get your attention?". I feel this is actually a dangerous change, as it's now very easy to miss the alarm, especially when the engine is running. I use the AP following routes on a nearly daily basis and this latest change makes it very, very easy to miss a waypoint arrival.

The second, well, this is just a bug. The boat speed readout on the plotter isn't damped, so you get the speed shooting up and down like a yoyo. Poor QA.

I've emailed Raymarine about these, got a reply really quickly thanking for the feedback and they'd let me know what the techs said, but that was a few days ago, so I doubt I'll see any reply.

I don't suppose anyone knows if it's possible to roll back to the previous firmware?

On the question of the firmware upgrade can anyone who has carried this out and has their E80/E120 displaying AIS info let me know if the unit now only displays the names of Class A vessels and not Class B's. I'm sure the previous version displayed both. TIA.

I was rather surprised to find they had changed the waypoint arrival alarm!

Looking at the update history on their website I half expect that there would be a 'bug fix' update following shortly afterwards.

From what I gave read elsewhere, assuming you have the old update files, it is possible to reinstall an older version of the software.
