Somewhere to eat.

I reckon there is a touch of 'Emperor's Clothes' about the B & O - We've had to send two meals back, both with under cooked Chicken, any Chef should know better,,,,,

Agree 100% about the "emperors Cloths", i said as much last night when i went there for a meal with a friend, it was absolutely packed inside and out, but the Rose had very few people in. B and O far too crowded, so went to the Rose. Not been to the Red Lion in Chelmo for years, must drop in again soon.

Maldon tandoori for a curry - first class service and quality food.

At the other side of the crouch there's the Plough and sail again good quality food and service

Sticking with the East Coast, I recommend The Anchor at Rowhedge. Free mooring alongside the quay at the green for at least 2 hours around HW before dropping down to Pyfleet Creek for a quiet night.

As a Rowhedge resident, I've given up on the Anchor... It's always been variable in quality and there are lots of much nicer places in the area where you can eat much cheaper... Expensive, below average pub food, relying on it's location.

Another +1 for Flavours by Kumar in Ramsgate. Maybe not quite as good as I'd been led to believe, but certainly better than the average curry shop.

The Oyster Smack Inn in Burnham is always good.

The Galley in Woodbridge was lovely the one time that we went there. Must go back.

I have had many meals in the Butt and Oyster. It is busy and pricey and i have had a couple of bad meals and poor service, but i just have to keep going back.

The place to avoid at all cost is The Wheelhouse at Woolverstone Marina. You don't want to pay for food poisoning, so I have heard.

I am in SYH and the food in the lightship is mostly very good and reasonably priced. Beer and wine cheap too.

We have one bad meal there. Won't go again!!
I believe that the same people run the Harbour Lights at Titchmarsh? We went there a couple of weeks ago and had pretty good food, so probably all down to the chef.

My wife and I are regulars at the B&O. It is a great location, yes it does get crowded due to popularity and don't assume you can park; we always walk down from Woolverstone. We've always had good experiences over the last four years of eating there regularly, and we do tend to be there at busier times, not experienced poor service and the food has always been cooked and presented well.

Woolverstone Riverside we use if needed, it's not an elaborate menu and is perhaps very slightly overpriced but I suspect that reflects the lower visitor numbers to a degree. Last friday the kitchen was closed by 19:15, a glorious summer's evening, bit odd. I tried the Rose at Shotley instead after reading good things. Outstanding welcome. I was clearly not a regular, all of the other clientele were on first name terms but everyone was extremely friendly and the fish, chips and mushy peas was excellent. Good pub grub, will go again. Not been to the Shipwreck for a couple of years, IMHO no better/worse than Riverside but did appear to be open and serving food more regularly. Anyone tried the Compasses Inn at Holbrook?

Been to the compasses at Holbrook a couple of times a couple of years ago. No better, no worse than most pubs i.e. I would be quite happy to go again if in the village but would not make a specific trip to visit.f

Oh dear, that explains a lot. Harbour lights was dire the last couple of times we've been in Titchmarsh, even complained to Mr T one time but it never got any better.

Tricky passage that, I wish you luck :D

After some lengthy tidal flow calculations and route shaping we safely made it to Harwich yesterday evening. Following your recommendation regarding the steaks at the Alma i had a fillet steak and my mate had a sirloin. Probably the best steak i've ever had, although i did have an excellent fillet in the Dickens at St Kats recently. The welcome from the staff and the atmosphere in the Alma were also excellent.

I was in Titchmarsh for 6 years and used to enjoy the Harbour Lights on a regular basis, albeit they sometimes struggled to cope and the service became poor. My wife and I got to know all the staff and spent loads of time and money there and I was a big tipper. We also used to meet other berth holders on a Friday night in the bar. But they extended the restaurant and got bigger and bigger and worse and worse, and then two years ago we berth holders were told that it was a restaurant, not a pub, and we could not go there just for a drink! Not been there since and have now left the marina for SYH where there is a great bar and sailing community spirit. We are not the only ones to leave just because of the Harbour Lights. Such a shame that they could be so ignorant.
