Something odd going on here…...

Government transferred what was BW to the C&RT and gave them a firm programme of funding for 15 years.

Now I read that Government, in the form of the Department of Transport, is investing £10 million in improvement works to canal towpaths in Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester:

In the meantime the EA Thames department of the Environment Agency continues to suffer major cuts in grant funding to the point where services are really beginning to suffer.

What gives ?????

A,hem,could it just possibly be that the Thames in the past has been receiving a slice of the cake far exceeding its rightful share due to the influence of the powerful long established lobby groups who boat there and live in close proximity with the people who have the power to direct where money is spent ?
Perhaps funding is now being more equally distrubuted around the country ?

It's all about the Government mania for cycling. As far as boating is concerned we would have more luck applying for funding from the Overseas Aid budget!!
