Interested to find some ideas for boats that are similar to Hallberg Rassy, Najad etc but don't have teak decks.....

Every HR I've seen has teak, don't want it due to the maintenance issues, and the heat when in warm climates.

Looking for a sturdy cruiser with decent performance.

The Starlight 39 springs to mind, but not many around. Any other ideas? Ideally 38-45ft +/- a bit..

Thanks!

Ask Magnus (Rassy) to build you one without a teak deck :0)

Teak decks were/are optional.

I didn't think HR were interested in custom building, apart from listed options. As I recall, teak decks were standard non-negotiable fitments. Perhaps Najad might be more flexible.

You're quite right, Teak is standard, and IIRC the deck beneath isn't textured, so there has to be a covering of sorts...Treadmaster anyone? :0)

It depends how keen HR are to sell a boat without one or with an alternative.

Having said that, there are many HRs with teak decks happily sailing the warmer parts of the globe.

Which generation of HR are you hankering after - the older / heavier / slower ones or the more modern versions such as the 342/372 onwards. And what aspects of the HR do you specifically want?

To a degree the later Moody and Westerly with very practical solid wood interiors are probably a sensible alternative to an older HR without teak decks.
For the newer ones the Arcona is a lovely alternative, albeit perhaps a bit sportier (though HR 372 and Arcona 370 not hugely dissimilar in some ways). Possibly X37 / 40 also, though they are mostly teak decks

Looking at 2nd hand in the price range up to about 200k (starting from about 50k upwards and willing to have work done).

Basic requirements are a strong sturdy cruiser that has good performance so the older Westerlys and Moody's were looking slightly less appealing (although not ruled out)

A new HR or similar is just too expensive and can't be justified!

You might look at a newer Moody 41 or 45 AC -these have a distinct look and have teak and non teak options plus Flexiteak if you prefer to avoid Semcoing the decks . There are some for sale in France etc on website although earlier models with darker interiors. Distinctly quicker than older Moodys CC36/38 /Westerly Oceanlords etc I suspect . You can even have specked with HR exterior features eg wooden rubbing strakes for those box moorings if the budget permits and easily within budget as second hand version. Others apart from the desirable Arcona 400s as mentioned by Dunedin ( the 37 is cramped in bow I believe?) to consider might be XC42 but rare and out of budget I suspect. Other ones worth a thought might be a Southerly or Contest ?

i was put of with the arcona...

teak isn't standard and you pay extra to have some in the cockpit. every thing is extra with arcona... you don't even get electrics and sails....
