Having been based on the River Orwell near Ipswich for the past five years black dust descending on my Antares 760 has always been a annoying problem. However the problem over the last six months has deteriorated with the dust containing - I guess metal particles which result in minute rust marks appearing on the textured decks which is proving impossible to remove. Has anyone else had a similar problem and any ideas on effectively removing the rust spots. Any comments would be appreciated.

The most common cause of this someone drilling (up the mast) or others grinding steel up wind, small particles of steel on the deck.

Oxalic acid or stainless steel cleaner in a liguid form will remove the stains.

However they might need treating a couple of times to completely remove the problem.

dust in air

problem is set to intensify as the volcano dust is everywhere .. Notable on boats in lough neagh as well as the seasonal lough neagh fly (chronomidge) plague! This time of the year here swarms of flys can be seen like clouds of smoke and they make for white surfaces and light at night! Boats here are frequently black in the mornings!!!
