Can anyone recommend someone in the Gosport/Portsmouth area to help refit the deck of our Westerly? The Treadmaster has worn out and I'm in the middle of getting all the old patches off. (yuk!). I've also started replacing some patches so I can't change the whole scheme at this time.

I've already removed the fittings (most of them - the others come off this week) and assuming I get all the old Treadmaster off and supply the new sheets and proper glue, I need someone handy to cut the sheets out to replace the patches on the deck.

Here's an example of the old deck - some of which is in the process of being removed in the photo.

I think an oscillating multitool would be the weapon of choice for removing the treadmaster...
I'm being quite quick and successful with an initial attack with a power plane, followed up by a large belt sander with 80 grit belt, followed up by a detail sander for the edges. A sharp chisel helps with any difficult bits in corners etc.

I need to find someone to employ to put the new stuff on.

Treadmaster works out around £100 per m2 including the epoxy glue that will do 2 sheets.
Will be hell on earth to remove that later on.
I used epdm diamond pattern and 2 pack contact adhesive. Half the price and I bought a 10m roll
I made some templates for some bits and others I laid on deck, drew on it where it needed to be cut then used scissors.

No and no. I did mine 5 years ago, but was in portsmouth harbour.
The pic is work in progress. Did a bit every now and then.
I did eventually finish it though ?

ah sorry Rappey I was referring to Johhny Morris's boat as it looked vaguely familiar and me and a friend were stood next to a Westerly in port solent which looked very similar.....I quite like them - look like a proper ship although I'm not convinced about the extra mast and what to do with it (except spend money on rigging and sails for it and have another set of chainplates to worry about)

what's your boat? I do like a good ole boat which isn't too mouldy (we've got an old Sadler 32)
