For the engine hatch an early Princess 286 .
The original pair have vanished.
Any guesses as to the numbers of Newtons required. ?

Obviously it depends on the weight and dimensions, - those are easily measured. If you trawl through the online supplier ads, most include a simple calculating tool.

When I replaced a pair on the deckhatch I just bought some that had the correct open/ closed size and the newtons turned out correct for the application.
they were slightly "over newton" at first but they lose some of their strength when used.Plenty on amazon /ebay and not as expensive as I first thought.

I cannot help much or at all but gas struts have a variety of end fittings dependent on how the originals were fitted (to attach to frame and hatch). You may gain an inkling on how the origins were fitted by looking for the attachment holes on the original frame and hatch and or they may have used similar gas struts in other locations. Best would be to find another example and see how they are fitted.

I assume there is no 'owners forum'
