Since I have now run through my supply of Total 5000 CF rated diesel oil I have just spent and exciting half hour doing some research on suitable 15w-40 mineral oils with a CF rating. I post the results here in case others may find of interest. All prices approx (and came from a comparison site so may not be accurate!) and for 5ltrs of 15w-40 mineral oil CF rate.

Total 5000 Diesel oil-about £20
Shell Helix HX5-circa £20
ASDA £10
Wilco £10.
Halfords Enhanced Mineral Oil £10
Mobil Super M £25+

No connection with any of the above but thought it may be of interest to anyone who is trying to find a suitable oil for their old diesel.

I think it was £22 for original Yanmar when I bought the oil for my engine. The other stuff they had was 18 or 20 so I paid a bit more and went for Original...

Not certain I would use the really cheap ones... UNless I knew they where up for job.

According to the forum experts the cheap and cheerful CF grade as supplied by the likes of Tesco and Halfords is better than the expensive stuff for basic engines like the gm series, and is what I have always used.

Yanmar oils

Yanmar do not make / blend oils

Maybe they don't but they sell oil labelled 'Yanmar'. I bought some from the Yanmar agent for my 1GM10 as it's a straight SAE30 oil. On an earlier thread, I believe the consensus was that these older Yanmars don't run hot enough to use 15W-40 especially at the revs most people seem to run them at. I rarely have mine at more than 2500 RPM.
