A nearly new 6mm Sta-Lok bottle screw was stolen off our rigged boat while in a North Wales yard. The rig was tensioned up. pinned and taped. It was obvious from a distance the rig wasn't OK from the bend in the mast.

What I find unbelievable is that a fellow yachtsman would do such a thing. I hope his boat sinks.

I get rather "old testament" when thinking about such scum. there are some aspects of sharia law that I support, and cutting of the hand of a thief seems pretty apt. Certainly it makes it very difficult for the thief, especially after the second offence!

We lost a bottle screw whilst sailng once ... our fault entirely - just saw it disappear over the transom from the loose backstay.

That was fine - but when we got to Bembridge SWMBO called from Cowes and asked if there was anything we wanted -
"YES! "was the reply -"a bottlescrew" (and gave approx dimensions) ...
"Can't you borrow one from another boat?" was her answer ...
"Erm - I doubt they'll have one the right size" I said
"Why does it matter what size, they all open a bottle of wine!" she said.
/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I think she misunderstood - back to the beginning then ....
"There is this little device that holds up the mast .... we lost one whilst beating ... we have 2 backstays so were are ok at the moment, but need one before our passage downwind tomorrow ... "
"Ahh... A bottlescrew!"
":D"

OTOH one of our columnists, possibly Libby P, recounted finding a bung missing from the dinghy but on the next visit was surprised to find not only was it returned but a spare as well. Sadly I don't think the same will happen here.

If you think that's bad, try leaving a Laser in a dinghy park with anything detatchable on board.

How depressing that a member of the sailing fraternity should do that. I can't believe it won't show up taped to a bottle of wine or something, the culprit having been desperate for a bottle screw and "borrowed" yours.

All mine were stolen off the mast which was on the trestles at a North Wales yard. Not to difficult to work out which one from my webpages.

As well as the tri-light and a broken spreader joint.

But to rob off a stayed mast, that beggars belief. Is your engine still there?
