Some people enjoying themselves today

How does the government legislate between adults only caravan sites and mixed sites.

You know I worked on my boat all weekend in the Hamble. I had no contact with other berth holders who mainly arrived and we off for day sails. However all weekend I can see and hear masses of the general public all crowded onto the green space at the bottom of Hamble lane to the cafe open "take aways only". Now that was madness, there was no social distancing it frankly was pandemonium.

While I agree that a yacht at anchor or on a buoy is perfectly safe, likewise someone in a caravan using a bit of common sense, ISTM that writing rules that say this is next to impossible. Wherever the edge is, there will always be edge cases for us to grumble about, like 2.9.9999 mph is legal, 30.00001 is illegal. Is it measurably more dangerous? Of course not, but that's the limit, and sometimes, it's even reasonable.

Let's just be grateful we're alive and able to get out - those of us whose boats are a) in the water and b) close enough to get to, though in the even of a and not b, I rather think I'd get out and find a nice quiet, jobsworth-free anchorage somewhere.

If I had a caravan or second home I would be seriously peeved at what you or others have done, irrespective of what someone else says to make you feel a little better. Particularly our friends outside of England.
If it helps, it doesn't bother me - in Scotland - one bit. On the contrary, I'm very grateful to Boris for nominating the whole of England as a canary cage to find out what happens when things are relaxed a bit. If it's a few more weeks before I can go sailing - pfft. I'll cope. We'll all cope.

Anyway, back to sailing.

Had a wonderful first sail on Sunday. Was a good boy, went home, in bed by 10pm and matron tucked me in.

I noticed that half of my windex has disappeared. Seeing that most of us have not had a hair cut for some time, my hair, or should I say hairs, proved to be an excellent wind indicator.

Wouldn‘t work for me - I’ve taken the dog-clippers to mine twice during the period ?

Particularly short at the moment because of a failed attempt at tapering the back by feel on Friday ?

Late afternoon on Friday I was moored on a visitors bouy at Itchenor & approached by the Harbour master who asked if I was planning to stop the night, my affirmative was quickly answered by him telling me I couldn’t, they were closed, sorry. However if I chose to anchor elsewhere in the Harbour I didn’t need to worry that they would be coming round to check & I could have a quiet night. Clearly he had public optics to manage but also had bags of common sense and understanding, I happily moved round the corner & we had a lovely evening, its reassuring to see that some public officials can get this difficult balancing act just right
Interesting question here. Fair enough they cant let people stay on visitors buoys overnight, but do they have the right legally or from the safety standpoint to refuse to allow you to anchor? Apart from the hassle, I guess they wouldnt want to test that one!

Herselfs Campervan is laid up in the back garden SORNed. She is not happy that while I can go off in my boat and the Harbour Board wouldnt stop me staying out, the van remains locked down as far as overnight trips are concerned. I expect to see a big spike in reported illnesses in the next 10 days after the antics this weekend, and it wouldnt surprise me if Boris was panicked into full lock down again when his beloved R figure soars!
