I'm looking for another spinnaker pole and occasionally have a look on ebay…

I found these two items which just shows how optimism can dominate realism when it comes to pricing sometimes.

Both from the same seller who is trying to fund his/her dream. At best they are worth less than half his suggested figures and I am not even sure that they are worth that.

I have those same Harken Spinnaker pole ends on the for sale section @ a very reasonable price

I occasionally watch items folk on the YBW post here with an ebay link
many have a high start price & never get a bid. Its off putting to do that, start @ £0.99 & get even more that the start price. Folk like a bargain even it they pay a lot for it

Absolutely right.

When I first started selling things on eBay I used to fix starting prices at a bit less than I hoped to get. Result -failure.

Then I bit the bullet and began setting the start price at £0.99, even for items worth more than £1,000. Result - lots of sales at good prices.

People get swept along at auctions when plenty of others are bidding. It reassures them.

I am always amazed that people will often pay the same for a second hand item as you can for a new one on e-bay.

But what do you do when a high value item is at £1.50 half an hour before bidding ends?

Those two items have been listed several times over recent weeks. Same result every time - no bids!

Keep your nerve(and fingers crossed!) Often people will bid at the very last second - I certainly hope so, got something at the moment finishing in a couple of days, started at .99p, several bids but lots of watchers.........

I don't use ebay much. Is the start price the equivalent of the reserve price?
