Do you fancy a job then Tony?

Nah....but I like to make sure the opposite argument at least gets an airing...hence instead of less lock keepers lets have more !

Interesting though that we seem to be split pretty much 50/50 on that question whereas dredging and pessimism seem to unite us almost as one ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Puzzled a bit by the two 'no' votes for dredging /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

You can't vote if you're lurking!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Depends how you define 'lurking' - usually means watching without posting which you can do on this forum whether you are registered or not - but you can only vote if you are registered.

Guess you are having a busy day ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No, even though my Birchwood only needs 2 feet of water to float, I voted for dredging.

I may get old one day, and buy a Broom!

I voted 'NO' to compulsory dredging for this reason. If Riparian Owners are forced to pay for dredging then it is quite conceivable they will stop allowing people to moor up. They will weigh up the cost of dredging against the income generated and just say "sod that".

It occurs to me that there is some opportunity for public/private partnerships with regard to moorings. Riparian owners who agree to partner with the EA to provide moorings could take advantage of EA dredging programmes to include their moorings, and enjoy visitor mooring income on a shared basis with the EA -or perhaps pay an annual fee to the EA to operate a mooring area.

Might also be a way of getting local authorities and the EA to act in harmony with regard to moorings.

Local Authorities may well be interested but would farmers and the like? I doubt it as they jealously guard their independence. Also when officialdom gets involved all sorts of thees, thous, whereas and wherefore crawl out of the woodwork.

It's the Birchwoods again - only need a puddle to float in

What a liberty....remember there's a BBQ on Saturday, and I want a word with you, Miss Osmosis....

I voted for dredging, otherwise my good friends would be Marina-bound, and therefore unable to enjoy the beauty of a Birchwood in full flight ( 5 knots in Ramages case, assuming he has fuel)

See how unselfish we are? (1.5ft according to the brochure) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Remember, Saturday night, I'll be waiting for you, Princess /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif (Bring a glass eh?)

2ft if you have the optional steel keel (most shaft drive Birchwoods do).

Carli goes just as fast as her hazardous fuelled sisters.

And she can make smoke too!

Well it looks as if you might have good weather for it.....but I'd keep a weather eye open for Andy if I were you....I hear he's quite good with wood and chisels and things !

Birchwoods do seem to come in for a lot of stick but............
