hello everyone, i am new here.

I am 22 years old and live in swansea in the marina. For the past 3 years i have been running my own I.T company. I have always had an intrest in boats and was woundering how i would go about getting an apprentiship or a job on a comercial boat / yacht.

I have no experiance but i am fit and healthly and a quick learner. In time i would love to become a skipper but for now willing to be a deck hand or train as an engineer. any advice accepted

thanks

go for the rapid yacht master ticket, 3 months then you can do what ever you want.

Mmmmmmmmmmm ............. my MN cadetship was 4 years!!!!

Am often wary about "accelerated learning" - might be ok for someone who has been in/on/under/around boats/water/sea etc etc, but for someone who has just got the bug of the sea, without any experience, I would predict a less than favourable outcome.

My advice would be to get yourself as much time on the water as you can in as many different tubs/dinghies/yachts/motorboats/ginpalaces etc etc as possible - see if you genuinely like it and are willing to spend weeks or months at a time at sea before investing any serious money.

I wish you well and would add that a career at sea is simultaneously the best and worst thing ever!
