SOLTRON

Re: Please sir, I have a question

OK <putting on ex-molecular biologists hat>

Enzymes don't multiply. They are biological chemicals, made of protein, which have very specific effects. They can act on their target many times over, but as with any protein, they become damaged with time.

So, they do not multiply, and do not last forever.

A really simple pictorial desctription of how enzymes work.....

Re: Please sir, I have a question

Sort of right , yeah.

In amongst all the gobbledegook that DepSol quotes (no offense DepSol, but I don't think he's a chemist or molecular biologist) is that the enzyme works as a surfactant.

What I think is going on here, and have no proof nor evidence, as don't know what's in it. A surfactant is a chemical which in very simple terms acts as a detergent.. breaks down bonds. The enzyme is acting to break down the bonds which hold the dreaded bugs cell structure together or the structures which hold the bugs together in clumps...this clumping is what probably blocks filters, as individual bugs are so small they would pass through a fuel filter. Needs special biological filter to trap individual bugs
. The bugs (which will probably grow, as said in clumps or strands) are being broken down to individual cells, or very small clumps which can pass through the filter) and maybe even damaging the cells so that they cannot grow and multiply further

Would need lots more info to give authorative answer

Re: Please sir, I have a question

What do you mean gobbledegook?? ;-)

I only gave a fraction of the information as I dont have all day to type this stuff out on here. Some of the info I have is classified either client wise or Soltron wise so will not release the info so you may be correct in theory but not in practice as you do not know the actual composition of the product. Glad you put the info together but there are other facts to consider.

You are right I am not a biologist or chemist but do have the facts in my posession. Have not taken offence to your comments and hope you dont to mine but theres a lot more pieces to this jigsaw.

The end result is what people want to know.....DOES IT CLEAN MY TANK...and the answer is YES.

Re: Please sir, I have a question

Gobbledegook, as in black magic scientific words that most won't understand. Sounds good but doesn't actually explain anything about what it's supposed to really do! ;)
Found the following though."The makers claim the treatment affects molecules within liquid fuels — including diesel and gasoline —and increases the fuel’s absorption of oxygen. The enzymes destroy the damaging contaminants that degrade normal fuels"
Several different actions going on here, possibly polishing and 'refining' the fuel, probably tying up free radicals, and some sort of action to replace some of the polymers normal structure with additional oxygen molecules.

Like I said would need lots more info than given to give authorative answer. Quite interesting. Would love to do lab analysis of constituents and also do some enzymatic assays

Re: Please sir, I have a question

Ok, what tests do you want to perform?

Would love to see what you and your lab come up with. Will it cost? Or is this a curosity test?

If you want some more info on Soltron let me know. Results may be handy in passing on to MBM to 'conclude' their results. As you say you need more info and I like test results.

basic question to resident chemist

we've been on about this for years. And now, a molecular biologist!

1) it's been said that the magic potion is "an enzyme, not a chemical" , But everything musst be a chemical, mustn't it? So exackly wot chemicals? Wot elements? Ish?

2) if it's a protein, then they must be trying to attack things with the old lock and key wassername thing. Do we even understand that? And can a protein attack "generally nasty stuff" in diesel anyway - wouldn't it have to be more specific?

3) when chocolate biscuits (for example) are out of date by a day or two, it's ok to eat them innit? What about a week Or a month?

Re: Please sir, I have a question

I'm and ex-scientist, with the emphasis on ex. don't have access to labs anymore. Would have done it out of curiousity. HPLC, Mass spec, then a broad spectrum of standard enzyme activity tests.....at least for starters. First two would give idea of what chemical components in it, which can be refined later, and from enzyme activity tests, would find out what the enzymes are doing, and again can refine. Pretty standard. Wouldn't show efficiency of Soltron. Would let me know what's in it, what it's doing, and what it's likely effects are. First steps
Then would grow different diesel loving bugs, and do variety of tests on composition. Look at clumping and stringing etc. with and without soltron, and based on chemical components probably look at effects with different compositions (assuming I could isolate enzymatic activity, would try similar chemical composition with different level of enzyme)

Did PhD on DNA fingerprinting, but also looking at engineering organisms to break down soil contaminants, which went from heavy metal to oils. The idea was to make organisms you could put into soil to remove contaminants. In effect, I was looking for ways of engineering organisms that could effectively 'eat' diesel and other contaminants. So not difficult to reverse process to look for ways to clean diesel :-)

Re: basic question to resident chemist

1)I don't know, and they don't say, see my recent post to see how I'd find out. Gobbedegook to those who don't practise black magic I'm afraid

2) see same post, enzymes good at stopping bugs doing what they do. Bugs brilliant at eating anything nasty. Just deprive them of anything else to eat, and they adapt to eat anything handy. What's more difficult is getting them to be more efficient at it, otherwise they take bleedin years.
3) choccie biccies fine to eat for days after sbd. If covered in green mould, serve with aged Stilton. If humming, feed to SWMBO first and observe effects empirically, (best friend dog should not be fed humming biscuits as test, unless crashed boat on desert island, and is survival situation)
