Hello all,
I have a small bottle of SOLTRON, and I am wondering if I should put it in now. What do you think?
Also, has anyone ever had any bad experineces with SOLTRON, because I feel a bit nervous about putting it in a nice new batch of diesel, which I presume is perfectly ok to begin with, Or am I worrying for the sake of it?

I've got a boat at last!!!
WHOOPEE!!!!!!!!!!

BUT WHAT SHOULD I CALL IT?

You may think its a nice new batch of spotless diesel but that is probably not the case. Did you catch Doms (Depsols) excellent report on Bugs in fuel recently.
It reveals that even the best fuel can get small amounts of water in it during the various forms of transport and therin live the bugs. Also your tanks could have some water/bugs in already via condensation.

If you want to see doms report you could either do a search, (about July 02) forget what the thread was called I think "Bugs some facts" , or PM me and I'll email it on a word document, very informative. CGN

It's not just bugs. I got so sick of smoke. I had the injectors serviced. They came back, Nothing wrong with them. Stuck some Soltron in. Smoke gone. Then just for a laugh. Stuck some in the old Toyota 4x4 pickup. It's going like a bat out of hell!! Dont know why. Had about zero effect in the merc. But then that goes OK anyway.

Been using soltron for a few seasons now and had no clogged filter problems like before, so it must be doing something.
However the MBM tests on fuel additives was a bit inconclusive so far as solly was concerned, and several other additives seemed to work better.
Was it just that they didn't give it enough time - or is there better stuff out there?

Dont know whether there is better or not. Like you. Boat used to stop mid channel before, with filters clogged. Aint this year. Never read the report. But what were they testing for. I've tried other things in the past to stop smoke, with limited results. My mechanic bought five bottles on his own evidence of looking at the back of my boat. It's alot more convinsing than a few boffins in a lab.

There wasnt enough Soltron present to give the same results as the biocide tests.

Soltron also paid for the US Military Specification MIL-S-53021as specified; Fuel Filterability which should have been done on all the tests as this is important in measuring the build up dead organisms against the filter.

The contaminated fuel was dosed with Soltron at 400 ppm v/v and after 17 days filtered through a 0.8µm (micron) membrane filter under standard vacuum.
The filterability of the untreated contaminated fuel in this test was 1.42 times greater than that of the Soltron dose fuel. i.e Soltron treated fuel passed through faster than untreated.

Irrespective of live or dead cellular matter, and the methods of counting and analysing activity, this test demonstrated that microbially contaminated fuel, treated with Soltron, is indeed burned off with the fuel. Filter blockage will be eliminated by replenishment of clean treated fuel. Soltrons's enzyme molecules act as Amphoteric Surfactants with both positive and negative ions, some having an affinity to asphaltenes and others to saturated hydrocarbons (paraffinic etc.) that are the carbon element in sludge.

This information should have been given in the test results by MBM but they cut corners and gave a vague report which did the product no justice but this could be to a lack of understanding. I would like them to publish the full facts, as I have said before Soltron is not a biocide it is an enzyme and totally different to a biocide so should not be compared as such.

Any questions?

To put it in simple terms - does this mean that soltron kills the bug and disolves the sludge and the whole caboodle is passed through the filter and burned, leaving me with nice clean fuel in a nice clean tank ?

Please sir, I have a question

If Solly's an enzyme shouldn't it continue to multiply after it's been applied to the fuel? If this is the case, then surely the original dose should continue to work, particularly in most boats diesel tanks which are usually left for long periods.

Or am I talking complete bolx?/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Knowing you. I would think your talking bolx. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Please sir, I have a question

Yes there is multiplication in the tank but it is not a case of one fill and your done.

The dosage rate is enough to produce enzymes that will multiply and fill that amount of fuel. i.e a litre will treat up to 5000 litres of fuel so enough enzyme in 1 litre of Soltron will have enough effect to safely treat 5000 litres of fuel.

Re: Please sir, I have a question

I have a theory......prob complete bllx but here goes.........
The enzymes feed on the crud in the fuel.....once theyve absorbed/worked their magic theyre spent/hadit/kaput.......surely this is why you need to keep adding more soltron with every refuelling? Double dose to start with to make sure all the crud gets gobbled up or wotever ....
hows that sound then...? Plausible or wot.........(ducks and dives)...well , I like it as an idea anyway...feel sorry for the lirttle enzymes tho, sort of suicidal lifestyle if I'm right...........:-(

Doesn\'t that mean...

that the stuff in my bottle should keep on multiplying, too? It's been in a locker for 4 months - I expect it'll have taken over the whole boat by now won't it?

Re: Please sir, I have a question

Do not the big enzymes not have baby enzymes and then the babys grow up and have more enzymes. Like the school kids do round here. Or is that Paulines department??

Re: Please sir, I have a question

I am in the middle of writing a report and will post the info when I am done. It will give you more answers to why how and where etc.
