Solo in The Swellies

Well done Graham.

Glad you made the trip.

There is no way you would have recovered at Seddons it was a wall of white water off there!.

We did submarine excercises for at least an hour and a half down tide but straight into wind. The final approach to Caernarfon was in the company of the Porth Dinllaen lifeboat..... They were towing some dutch visitors who had engine failure as they approached the Swellies.

I would love to have hitched a lift aboard the LB just to experience their return trip over Caernarfon Bar back to PY.

Why is it we cant have some good weather at the WEEKEND.

But he didn't want to take his hands off the helm.

I bumped into Graham the other Day
In Dinorwic
On Land
We only bumped into another vessel during Training by the way
Nice old Yoghourt Raggie whatsit called 'Searush'!!:D, whilst Graham was going through 'the learning curve':D
Is the normal vessel to Go against at 'Ramming Speed!;)
Hey Graham, flippen well done
And a nice tale to tell
No chance of piccies!
I did ask
Graham said--- well words to this effect
Cos He is more polite etc than I!
F888ck innel K. I had me ands on the wheel an charts an 'sticky out bits' you told me about' He said
Fair play, couldn't argue:D
Graham
Well done, good post, good trip
An as hlb said
'kwacker confused me etc'!
But hellfire, If I made it easy
It would spoil the Myth
An I'd earn no Bucks;)

But he didn't want to take his hands off the helm.

Not during the fast and furious bits Steve, but the relaxing periods on anchor or the tractor towing her up the beach.

Just had an idea for Kwacka, if he could borrow a gopro camera and mount it on the highest point of his centre consol on the RIB for a fast run through the Swellies during the next big spring tide.....that would make some good footage!?

He might need some technical advice on the filming part though ;) :)

Terwat!
You not wrong there though:rolleyes:
Funny enough we have been toying with this idea
Want to do it at LWS so's peeps can see the sticky out bits
Better than a go pro
We have been in touch with a local Pro TV Camera man
LWSprings happen about 07.00 hours or 19.00 hours ish
So when we get some decent weather/light we are going to do the Gig
Deffo this 'Summer'
I got a big roll of Duct/Gaffa tape ready
To strap said Pro to the A Frame so he don't Go the Pro:D

I can see that would make a great ad on your web site & you can always edit around the bits where you go rock-hopping. :p

Don't forget to link to it on here too.

It would also be good to do a similar trip at max flow where people can actually see the standing waves, whirlpools & the different water levels either side of the bridge piers. It isn't often people see sea water with a steady steep slope on it.

I think that LW Springs trip through The Swellies in a very rubberised boat would be an absolutely top idea. Its one thing to be able to follow the route through there but it would be great to see what is actually there underneath the water to avoid..... On the other hand it might frighten me so much I may not want to go through there again. I'll bring the hip flask.

If any one knows a way of getting a sony 8 mm video cassette on to a computer (beyond me and the camera is buggered) then I have a brilliant video going through the straits at full flood and low water in "Beaumaris Castle" A seagull powered raft. Battlements, towers, the lot! There was a 4 foot standing wave not really a problem, but we had to put the drawbridge down so we could see, The 4 foot "hole" in front of the wave nearly swallowed us whole!! Made for interesting navigation!!

Also got a vid of us skiing through there in our youth:eek:
