His A35 was holed during a dismasting and he spent 48 hours in his liferaft in (initially) 7m seas before being rescued by an Antarctic cruise ship. Nasty business and fair play to those involved in the rescue.

Delord had already done 17 transatlantics including a 3rd place in the mini transat. His boat was really well prepared and it's a pity it was holed by the mast.

There is an article about him in Voiles & Voiliers Feb 2013 edition - before the shipwreck.

He set off 2 weeks before the Vendéee Gobe sailors and the last one only overtook him when he was approaching Cape Leeuwinn, not bad for a 35 footer.
