Why?
Solo rows across the Atlantic are old hat now.

For the money it is going to eventually cost him to buy / build / equip / supply the row boat, he could buy a nice little sailing cruiser, have an excellent tradewinds sail across the Atlantic to Antigua, and still have a fair bit of change left over to donate to the charity of choice.

have you ever been in the n atlantic during the winter ?

the intrepid adventurer will raise nothing except maybe a mayday ........ and probably expect others to risk their lives to get him out of the poo.

even full sized merchant ships avoid the n atlantic in winter, and load the vessels to a lighter draft because of the inherent dangers associated with the area.

Umm, he will not be rowing the 'north' north atlantic as such - rather he will be rowing from the Canaries to (hopefully) Antigua, mostly in the tradewinds.
However he will still be at the mercy of what the trades can fling at him - as various rowers found out in a transatlantic race early last year when the winds got up (gusting to 40 knots I think) with associated seas. Various boats capsized as a result of being in these conditions - I think only one was righted - the others could not be righted, and the crews had to be rescued.

The rower talks about GBP 50k to get 'the show on the road' (or the sea rather) - this sounds very optimistic...... for his sake I hope he does find a major sponsor, and gets lots of support for his charities.
However I cant help thinking that he would be better off just getting a nice sail boat, sailing across, and asking folk to contribute a penny per mile or something like that.
