What a great weekend for boating in the Solent.

I am not going to post loads of photos this time, but there were a few worth an airing I thought.

So....

Getting to the sea from Chichester marina can be interesting. There is a channel through this lot somewhere. (and they do go alway to the horizon if you look closely )

More boats anchored at East Head than you get in a marina. How they unravel the anchors later on I don’t know.

Now this is novel, an Ice Cream Boat doing the rounds in Osborne Bay. (No jingle though) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

SWMBO decided to brave the sea, I opted for the dinghy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I always try to capture a shot of passing MOBO’s in case they are forumites.

Then off to see some of the powerboat racing.

Not many shots as I took more video.

Then back to Gosport for the night, passed this on the way in (well he passed us actually)

After getting back to Chichester went for a walk up to the lock, water pretty low in the channel with spring tides approaching.

Hope you all had as good weather as we had.

That Chi lock shot was taken about 20 mins after I passed through and as I commented on scuttlebut (port solent threat) there was some of the worst boat handling I have ever seen from both power and sail.

Some of them would do well to spend a couple of weeks on the thames, learning a few manners and in particular learning how to stand off or at least moor up. (attaching some lines would help instead of assuming you will lock straight through).

Most yachts (sail) were very polite particularly the poor chap at the front of your pic who was very patient but missed the cill by about 5 mins. The other two sailing boats I let pass ahead of me so they could make the cill were not so.

Name and shame the moody owner (snow something or other) who had the audacity to ask if he could jump the 18 boats in front so he could drop his crew off as they have to catch a train to bham...he can go and whistle, even more so as I let him go ahead in the end so he could get his boat over the cill.....and did not say thank you.

sorry rant over, that was the only things to spoil a fantastic weekend.

As for East Head all I saw was total professionalism in anchoring with not one snagged line, that was my biggest surprise of the weekend apart from jumping into some VERY cold sea..........
