Thinking about the season ahead and where I have been / haven't been. It may well be my last season in the Solent as we explore getting a boat in the Med.

I would be interested in hearing about other peoples amazing places they like in the Solent, perhaps ones that I haven't tried myself. If I count off what I have done so far it would be -

- Newtown (of course)
- Lymington
- Beaulieu
- Colwell Bay and the Hut
- Yarmouth
- Cowes
- Chichester (albeit only the Emsworth Channel so far)

Has anyone got any must do Solent destinations (keeping it local to this area only) that would be on their list..?

You don't look as you drawn much so might try Island harbour down the Medina which is very peaceful or the folly inn which is much less so but has plenty to look at generally going on round about. Clear many places in chi depending on your draft . You could presumably make into into keyhaven if you would like a change from Lymington and there is a good pub there . A lot depends on what you are after but you can also go into Fishbourne taking care to miss the ferry although it's not a red funnel type they don't tend to stop.

Sorry mate. Not sharing :)

Keyhaven. Spring tides weekend, you'll get a T40 in there no bother, a Nelson 40 lives there permanently, from lunchtime, when the tide in central Solent turns west, Keyhaven fills up and stands all afternoon. You can sit on the bathing platform and see over the gravel spit all the way to Cowes and the Southdowns. Like a mill pond. Go ashore for the cafe at Hurst castle which has ice creams.

WhiteCliff bay.
OR
a full road the Island trip. Did this for the first time in 2017 after boating in the Solent for 8 years,

We took all day to go round at 27 knots stopping for lunch and tea. the South side of the Island is much quieter

Done the round island trip a few times, agree the south Island has some nice spots to stop on a calm day. Steephill Cove lovely spot. Also Ventnor used to have visitor bouys which was good for shore visit to the pub / cafes etc (didn't see bouys last year though), if brave enough enter Ventnor harbour, did that once, but quite shallow and dries out, depending on tide.

Keyhaven is a great place for an overnighter and visit Hurst castle, very tide dependent at entrance.

Totland Bay
Anchor in 3 to 4 metre of crystaI clear water sandy bottom in a bay hardly affected by passing wash.
Sheltered from Southerly and Easterly winds
never been there in SW so cannot comment

We did Chichester marina last year a couple of times. Boat House Cafe is nice especially on a sunny evening. We also quite like Alum Bay. Bucklers Hard up the Beaulieu River with the Master Builders good also, but needs booking in advance.

Have you still got the T38?

I have. Decided to keep her after all so she’s back on the berth in Port Hamble, until the 16th, for Mr Street to give her the annual once over. Probably not far from where you were last year. It had better be a similar summer this year to last!! Did you decide to stay in PH or move?

That’s great news Pete.

Still at PH. I’ve moved to B Pontoon as my boat was clunked by a charter yacht on F Pontoon last season! That charter aisle is a crash zone!!

We’ll have to catch up over a beer in the season.

Cannot add much to what has been posted, but would recommend that you stretch your legs and visit a few places outside of the Solent , Weymouth , Dartmouth ,salcombe ,channel Isles are all within a day's easy cruise , seems such a shame to miss out on these before moving your boat ,

Town Quay is an interesting shout. What is it about there that ticks the boxes for you?

I like the fact that you can get the free bus into West Quay and the surrounding areas for something in stark contrast to the peace of Newtown Creek, the history of Bucklers Hard or the old charm of Yarmouth, Lymington, Hamble Village or Cowes.

Henry :)
