Some of you may have noticed the work going on at the historic Fort. As well as renovations, there will be 22 homes built in the casemate.

Undoubtedly spectacular views.......and a spectacular price!!

For anyone interested, The Portsmouth News has a long article with pieces showing progress.

Been going on for years. First they had to dig it out of the pebbles, something I'm sure the new owners will enjoy regularly!

Plenty of empty land in Gosport for new homes including the old detention centre which seems unused now . It said there is a shortage of building land yet the government sits on many empty acres in Gosport.

I had understood that the old RNH was to be revamped for homes. According to the local MP, the former site of the Submarine 1st Flotiia, Fort Blockhouse, is taking too long to get sold off and she's pushing for a result.

Yes, the News talks about removing the bank from around the casemate and has some up to date pictures of how the work is going.

I'm sure they'll get sold, but the super rich will still get stuck in the traffic at Fareham... :)

The roads are better than they were, there’s a good bypass to the west which is generally empty.
We were back there for a while a couple of weeks ago visiting family. The traffic seemed as clogged as it always was. I lived there for many years and know my way around. When you are there every day, you can see this in action. Especially the peeps who travel to worki in Pompey. Mrs S did for a long time and hated the commute.

If you travel the same route you always have, you should expect the results you always got.
As I said, new road is pretty empty most of the time.

Do you mean the road that runs from near Browndown camp and across the back of HMS Collingwood?

It does get busy at commuter times and is not exactly new....

In any case if you are heading east, you still have to get through the Fareham bottleneck. Plus the M27 is in a permanent state of repair.

A helicopter into Daedalus is best....

I mean Daedalus Way, the new bypass which is empty all the time. We've used it all times of day and it's never busy. It's slightly longer if heading east, but ultimately is always faster than any of the older roads. Opened a couple of years ago so I'd still consider it new.

Going to Southampton from Gosport, Daedalus Way is usually only a minute or two slower than the motorway, but Rowner Road can be stop-start at times.

When I lived in NW London, I used to reckon that, if I couldn't leave for Hardway by 3pm on a Friday, there was no point in leaving until 7 or 8. I can't see any change in that.

We usually went via Lee for exactly that reason. Unless there’s some RTA or other event we’ve never had a problem on the new road, and the higher speed limit makes up for the longer journey in most cases.
We no longer own any cars though, stopped the berth at Haslar in March and in a couple of weeks will be house free too, so traffic is the least of our worries these days 🤣

You will find that no car enriches your life and your wallet.
